American Consumerism: Sprint PCS

As an American consumer it’s hard to not  be bombarded by the constant barrage of advertising that is shoved down our throats on a daily basis. Whether it’s a cable company asking you to switch services and get  free HD channels or a cell phone company telling you that they have the fastest service in the country, it’s tough to not be misled by this sometimes deceptive advertising.

I’ve been a loyal Sprint PCS customer for almost 10 years. I also worked in the cell phone industry for almost 6 years. When I originally started my service with Sprint PCS, it was the best company available. AT&T, which was Cingular Wireless and Verizon were still some of the newer companies out there but none could match the quality and speed that Sprint offered at the time in my area. Since then, there has been a dramatic changes in the way service providers distribute service to their customers.

The problem I have with wireless providers, especially Sprint PCS, is that they all claim to have the fastest or most reliable network around. I happen to live in one of the biggest  cities in the country where we have 4G LTE  service on the Sprint PCS network, however even being in the middle of town I sometime have little to no internet service. This isn’t something new either, this has always been a problem with the Sprint network. Living in a big city sometimes requires the use of GPS or google maps, and without service it is hard to move around the city.

What my concern is, how can companies claim that they are the best at anything if it is not always the case. I understand the concept of “you get what you pay for”, but it seems like all wireless providers are so outrageously expensive these days that they should all offer exceptional service.

Verizon wireless is probably the most expensive wireless provider out there but they truly do offer better service than any other provider. I only learned this because a friend really did his research and found that this company by far had the best service, but you wouldn’t know it because basically any company out there can claim that they are the best.

I wish we lived in a world where everyone was honest and companies were actually looking out for their customers.  Where did truth in advertising go?
